Polestar Unveils Their First SUV

Emmelena Bryce

Electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar has unveiled their newest model - the Polestar 3. The electric SUV will be officially announced at its global reveal in October 2022. Although, we won't know many of the details until this date, here is what we do know.

Polestar aims to release a new model every year for the next 3 years which starts with the Polestar 3. We have our fingers crossed that this lineup includes something sporty such as the O₂ or Precept concept cars that they have unveiled previously.

The Polestar 3 will see Polestar moving into the SUV space for the first time. This is a great move for them as this shape dominates most of the market, and larger vehicles are especially preferred here in New Zealand. As we have seen previously with electric SUV models, the battery range is often compromised due to the larger size. However, the Polestar 3 has a range target of 600km so Kiwis will likely jump at the opportunity to buy one, as they have with the Polestar 2.

Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath says of the new release, “Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character. With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.” Thomas Ingenlath adds: “This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”

Orders can be taken from the October release date with production beginning in early 2023 in the United States and China.
